Part 2: IdM and the future of Aegis Identity
IdM is a critical aspect of overall school management. The rate of change with regard to Internet technologies is mind boggling in EdTech. Many key trends being managed are: “Bring you own device (BYOD)”, “1 to 1” (Schools providing a device (e.g. tablet) for each student), and “Student Data Privacy.” And the list goes on.
The other critical reason for IdM in education is the turnover of students. Large Universities can have upwards of 15,000 students coming and going each year. That is a HUGE management task that requires automation.
Now, more than 3 years down the road with our company, there are many great things we have accomplished. First, proudly we claim “critical mass” in the Higher Education space. We have many customers, who are all happy, and an advisory council made up of key members of their IT management staff that helps to keep us on task. During this evolution numerous opportunities in the K-12 arena have materialized as well, and we have captured a significant presence there. We have enhanced our solution to adapt to the nuance between HE and K-12. And finally, we have created wonderful solutions using a technology called federation that can help manage the student lifecycle as they move from primary to higher education and into the workforce.
Working hard in this marketplace for 3+ years has gained us good notoriety and a “thought leadership” role. We are proud of our associations with the EdTech Industry, including membership and leadership with: EDUCAUSE, Internet2, Incommon, and CoSN.
The people of Aegis Identity Software remain passionate about the positive outcomes EdTech can bring to our students, faculty, and administration, and will continue to bring contemporary solutions to market for years to come. I hope you help us write the future chapters of this story.
